Support Groups and Advice
Bounty
Bounty

Anyone who has got this far knows Bounty: nobody survives pregnancy without having received that bag (or in our case, two or even three bags) of helpful advice and free samples.

But once the child is born and growing up, they can continue to be helpful: their discussion groups and advice lines remain relevant throughout the preschool years, and it is always useful to read opinions out there that are sometimes very far removed from your own.

TAMBA
Twins and Multiple Births Association

As well as offering support to the network of twins and triplets clubs around the country, TAMBA also offer a support helpline (call 0800 138 0509), staffed by friendly mums who have experienced the challenges of bringing up twins, and have given up their time to offer support to others who may not at that moment feel so much in control of their children as they might.

As well as the dedicated support helpline, TAMBA also run courses on various aspects of parenting, and making the most of the opportunities that having twins or triplets will bring you.

SANDS
Stillborn And Neo-natal Death Society (SANDS)

Everyone's reaction will be different, but if you, or someone close to you, ever has to experience the death of a young child, it may help to know that there is a charity dedicated to helping you through this very difficult time.

As well as individual counselling the charity publishes a monthly newsletter, filled with letters from other people in similar situations sharing their experiences, some offering hope to others, but many simply taking the opportunity to air their grief to a non-judgemental audience. They also organise a series of remembrance services throughout the country, providing a focus and a meeting place for people to meet up.

Out and About
A Temporary Respite
Bad Mothers' Club

Okay, so not actually a "professional" outfit, but have you ever found yourself grinding your teeth talking to someone who is ever so nicely telling you that you are not quite bringing up your children perfectly? Fancy a little time out (call it "therapy") from hammering away at the coal face of child care, as you are being driven up the wall?

This site was set up with exactly that moment in mind: like-minded (non-perfect) mothers with the odd tip, recommendation, aired grievance or even just a very bad joke. And in recognition of the ever-widening net trapping the whole of the extended family and friends into childcare, it has even acknowledged that fathers, au pairs, grandparents, and possibly even the health visitor may find something of interest (or rather distraction) in the site.

It is a bit hit and miss, but you may find something worth looking at.
